Name : J. R. Jones / Alias : Chicago Reader
The real-life stunts are eminently suspenseful and exhilarating, and adrenaline junkies will be well pleased. For the uninitiated, however, Strauch's adoring treatment of the Boenishes may be a little hard to stomach.

Name : Dennis Harvey / Alias : Variety
An exhilarating flashback to the life and times of BASE jumping's daredevil popularizer.

Name : Joe Morgenstern / Alias : Wall Street Journal
The film, like its subject and everyone who talks about him, is frustratingly short on analysis or insight.

Name : Katharine Pushkar / Alias : New York Daily News
An informative, if not engrossing, history of a sport.

Name : Keith Uhlich / Alias : AV Club
The subjects themselves may soar, but the film that contains them remains frustratingly earthbound.

Name : Molly Eichel / Alias : Philadelphia Inquirer
Sunshine Superman, named for the Donovan song, is about more than just Boenish. It's about the power of the image, something that Strauch uses to great effect.

Name : Erik McClanahan / Alias : Minneapolis Star Tribune
A pretty straightforward account of Boenish's life and tragic death, but man. all those skydiving, cliff-jumping and parachuting shots are really something to behold.

Name : Stephanie Merry / Alias : Washington Post
"Sunshine Superman" might seem like a niche story, with its focus on stunts that most people wouldn't dream of actually doing, but the documentary feels universal. It's simply an examination of how one man fully embraced life while charting his own path.

Name : Chris Nashawaty / Alias : Entertainment Weekly
[A] gripping documentary.

Name : Kyle Smith / Alias : New York Post
The exhilarating documentary "Sunshine Superman," which melds gorgeous aerial photography of Boenish's jumps with sublime musical cues, finds in Boenish a kind of poet-adventurer, equal parts pixie and desperado.

Name : Peter Rainer / Alias : Christian Science Monitor
Boenish's wife, Jean, who trained to jump with him, is interviewed extensively, and, although Strauch doesn't provide much backstory for her, she emerges as that rarity - a perfect matchup to a seemingly unmatchable man.

Name : John DeFore / Alias : Hollywood Reporter
An irrepressible pioneer of BASE jumping contributes greatly to his own encomium in Sunshine Superman, Marah Strauch's very fine look at the legacy of Carl Boenish.

Name : Bruce Demara / Alias : Toronto Star
Engrossing, tension-filled and utterly fascinating.

Name : Ben Kenigsberg / Alias : AV Club
If Sunshine Superman doesn't exactly inspire comprehension of the desire to feel like you're "flashing through a 20-story building in one second," it is immersive enough to induce panic.

Name : Peter Keough / Alias : Boston Globe
[A] spectacular and affecting portrait.

Name : Michael Rechtshaffen / Alias : Los Angeles Times
Director Marah Strauch gives the film an exhilarating uplift of its own.

Name : Walter V. Addiego / Alias : San Francisco Chronicle
The action shots are intoxicating, as close as most of us will get to feeling the jumpers' euphoria.

Name : Simon Abrams / Alias : Village Voice
You may not leave Sunshine Superman wanting to emulate Carl and Jean, but you will feel like you've vicariously bonded with them.

Name : Marsha Lederman / Alias : Globe and Mail
Long before there were GoPros, there was Boenish, a camera mounted on his helmet, jumping from Yosemite's El Capitan or L.A. skyscrapers under construction.

Name : Neil Genzlinger / Alias : New York Times
A bittersweet documentary about Carl Boenish, who looked at very tall things and saw an opportunity to leap.

Name : Karen D'Souza / Alias : San Jose Mercury News
Strauch makes a compelling case for the exhilaration of living, and dying, on your own terms, a freedom so few of us ever truly experience.

Comment For The Dressmaker Cineme

Name : J. R. Jones / Alias : Chicago Reader
Emotionally garbled.

Name : Esther Zuckerman / Alias : AV Club
The film is most successful when it's playing dress-up, less so when the comedy goes black, and worst off when it attempts melodrama.

Name : A.O. Scott / Alias : New York Times
Unfortunately, and despite its promising start, "The Dressmaker" doesn't move much beyond the level of well-costumed playacting.

Name : Kyle Smith / Alias : New York Post
The Titanic is now the second-biggest disaster Kate Winslet has ever been associated with.

Name : Claudia Puig / Alias : TheWrap
There are giggles to be had - especially given the talents of cast members like Winslet, Davis, Hemsworth and Weaving - but the laughs are not quite plentiful enough to make up for its awkward contrivances.

Name : Ann Hornaday / Alias : Washington Post
Overplotted, undercooked and extremely well-dressed, "The Dressmaker" has style to burn, but it has a mean streak as wide as the Outback.

Name : Robert Abele / Alias : Los Angeles Times
What starts as a cheeky lark about bad reputations and snazzy transformations never really gels into something truly funny or even appetizingly weird.

Name : Walter V. Addiego / Alias : San Francisco Chronicle
Tonal inconsistencies sink "The Dressmaker," and the same applies to Winslet's character.

Name : Peter Rainer / Alias : Christian Science Monitor
The film has so many moodswings that watching it induces whiplash, and just about everybody in it, from Winslet on down to Judy Davis, playing the dressmaker's crotchety mother, flagrantly overdoes it.

Name : Amy Nicholson / Alias : MTV
The second Winslet sets her sewing machine on the ground and snarls, "I'm back, you bastards," we're delighted to hear we're in for something fun.

Name : Abbey Bender / Alias : Village Voice
Perhaps it's meant to be somehow mythic, but mostly The Dressmaker is just cruel.

Name : Linda Barnard / Alias : Toronto Star
The tone repeatedly flips from quirky to woeful. The costumes are gorgeous, though.

Name : Stephen Whitty / Alias : New York Daily News
"The Dressmaker" is only sew-sew.

Name : Marissa Martinelli / Alias : Slate
The Dressmaker may be a revenge comedy, but it never quite conforms to our expectations of what that should mean. And that seems to be exactly how Moorhouse wants it.

Name : Peter Travers / Alias : Rolling Stone
Kate Winslet can do anything . except save this movie from quirky overkill.

Name : Tom Russo / Alias : Boston Globe
It might not all flow, but between Winslet and castmate Judy Davis's various spitfire moments and some potent dark turns, there's a fair amount to like.

Name : Justin Chang / Alias : Variety
Moorhouse's adaptation of Rosalie Ham's 2000 novel may lead audiences to expect a primmer, more well-behaved movie based on its title alone, but that doesn't mean it won't have them in stitches.

Name : Bill Goodykoontz / Alias : Arizona Republic
Winslet and Davis salvage what they can from the movie - a heroic effort, almost, making it a fun trifle, albeit one with some deadly serious overtones.

Name : Jon Frosch / Alias : Hollywood Reporter
Little here "works" in any traditional sense of that word, but the film boasts enough manic energy and straight-up weirdness to keep you entertained before overstaying its welcome in the final act.

Name : Rex Reed / Alias : New York Observer
Whatever were they smoking?

Name : Andrew Lapin / Alias : NPR
This confused and overlong film inhabits a world of caustic darkness that not even an expert seamstress could patch over with silly pratfalls.

Name : Susan Wloszczyna / Alias : RogerEbert.com
Positively explodes with a surfeit of pent-up creative energy that unfortunately doesn't know when to stop.
